The downstairs bedroom was completely refurbished in 2012. To make it more accessible, the entrance from the kitchen was simplified, enabling also the room height to be increased. The old chestnut -beamed ceiling is as it was, but there is a new oiled chestnut floor, complemented by antique furniture and re-used old chestnut timber fittings. There is a new king-sized bed and new light fittings including reading lamps above the bed-head. It is now a wonderful room - but it remains a finely balanced choice which is the best bedroom in the house - this one or the one above.
At the same time, the en-suite bathroom was entirely rebuilt, creating a bright modern space with a walk-in shower and other luxury fittings.
